Falkirk MSP announces plans to stand down at May election

Alison Harris has announced she won’t be standing at the 2021 Scottish elections.

The Falkirk-based Conservative List member represents Central Scotland.

She stood unsuccessfully for the town’s Westminster seat in 2015.

She was selected to contest the Falkirk West constituency in 2016, and placed third on her party’s' Central region list, going on to serve as spokesperson for taxation and financial sustainability, and becoming deputy convener of the Public Audit Committee.

She said: “It’s been a privilege to serve the people of Central Scotland and of course Falkirk, where I’ve lived and worked my whole life.

“While it will be sad to leave parliament behind, I’ve come to the decision not to stand for re-election.

“It’s something I considered over New Year, and at that point it wasn’t altogether clear whether or not the elections would take place in May.

“Now it looks like they’re going ahead it’s time to bow out. I wish the party all the best for the future.
