Popular Falkirk cafe's plans to expand outdoors

The Café at Canada Wood would like planning permission to help it make the most of its outdoor terrace.

It wants to create a sheltered area with sliding glass doors and a retractable roof.

At the moment, the popular cafe - which sits beside the John Muir Way - is having to turn customers away when the weather is too wet or cold.

And that's been made worse by social distancing measures imposed during the Coronavirus crisis as fewer indoor tables are available.

The new design will mean that on fine days the sides and roof can be fully opened, while on wet or windy days they'll be closed.

The planning application states that the area will not be heated and will retain the feeling of the outdoors.

The cafe is part of the Callendar Estate Activity Centre, which has mountain bike trails, a bike shop, bike hire and maintenance facilities and heritage trails.
