Falkirk Council official retires after four decades

One of Falkirk’s most senior officials has retired after more than 40 years with the council.

Councillors from across the political parties paid tribute to Rhona Geisler, who was director of development services for just over 20 years.

Cecil Meiklejohn, leader of Falkirk Council, said: “Having given that level of commitment to the Council but also to the people of Falkirk is almost unique in these times and I would therefore like to formally thank Rhona on behalf of Falkirk Council for all the work she has done on behalf of the council and the elected members of all political colours over the years.

“There have been a number of significant achievements within the Falkirk area where she has played an integral part in making them happen.

“The professionalism and good counsel given to elected members coupled with the collaborative working with and support to her colleague directors as well as the staff whom she has had responsibility for over the years has been exceptional.

“Her qualities have also been also been recognised at national level and something that too has brought further benefits to Falkirk.

“I wish her all the very best for the future.”

Conservative group leader James Kerr said: “We would just like to thank Mrs Geisler for her many years of hard work and commitment to Falkirk council and our group.

“She has worked tirelessly in her role as the director of development services.

“We wish her health and happiness in her retirement.”

Labour group leader Robert Bissett said: “She has done a really good job and been a great public servant and we wish her well.”

Douglas Duff, head of planning and economic development at Falkirk Council, is acting director until a replacement is appointed.
