Falkirk Council agree to waive GP medicals for would-be taxi drivers

People applying for taxi licences in Falkirk will not be given a medical by a GP, at least for the next six months.

Councillors agreed to waive the usual procedure to help clear a backlog of applications that have been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Those applying will have to complete a self-assessment which will be followed up by a doctor if any condition is declared.

Members of Falkirk Council’s emergency executive heard this way of working was standard practice in many other authorities. The GP who currently carries out medicals is unable to do them due to the pandemic.

Falkirk Council had agreed to expand the pool of GPs who will undertake medical exams but this was also delayed by Covid.
