Police and safety officials investigate death at Falkirk sawmill

A man was fatally injured after an incident at a sawmill in Bainsford yesterday afternoon.

The tragedy happened on site at James Callander and Son Ltd, in Abbots Road, and saw emergency services personnel rush to help the 22-year-old, who sadly died of his injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Falkirk attended an industrial unit on Abbots Road around 1.30pm on Wednesday, January 13, following reports of a man seriously injured on the site.

“The 22-year-old man has sadly died and we are working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to conduct inquiries into this matter.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

It is believed HSE investigators were present at James Callander and Son today.

The name of the dead man has not yet been released and no one from the timber firm would comment on the incident at this time.
