Plea for information after attack in Bonnybridge

A man was seriously assaulted in Bonnybridge during the early hours of this morning.

The unprovoked attack took place at around 1am when the 39-year-old was walking along the High Street towards The Toll.

According to police, the victim met another man as he approached a roundabout at the junction with Bridge Street. The pair exchanged words and shortly afterwards he was knocked to the ground by a punch to the head.

It is understood that around four other men, who appear to have been friends with the assailant, then arrived at the scene.

The victim attempted to run away from the group but he was chased by the men and assaulted again on Seabegs Road, near its junction with Broomhill Road.

The group then made off leaving the man lying on the pavement.

A passing female motorist spotted him, stopped to offer help and then took him home.

Detective Sergeant Colin Moffat of Stirling CID said: “Our inquiries into the full set of circumstances are ongoing but needless to say we want to hear from anyone who was in the area of The Toll around the time of these attacks to come forward.

“In particular, we want to hear from the female driver of the white car, who stopped and kindly took this man home.”
