Plans for new power plant on Ineos site

The firm lodged a proposal of application notice with Falkirk Council to build an energy plant on the site – which includes Bo’ness Road – with the earliest date an actual application can be submitted being September 27 this year.

Ineos has also put forward an application to erect three external CCTV cameras on top of eight metre high swan neck mounts along Bo’ness Road.

Back in May Ineos staff had to be evacuated from the Grangemouth site and nearby schools placed in lockdown when a leak at the firm’s Kinneil Gas Plant sparked a major alert.

At the time Ineos stated safety is always a prime consideration and the CCTV cameras – and plans to close the section of Bo’ness Road and build gatehouses – appear to be adding an extra level of security to the site.

Both planning applications – and the proposals to close Bo’ness Road currently in the hands of Scottish Ministers – will be the main topics of discussion at the monthly meeting of Grangemouth Community Council on Thursday, August 17.

Walter Inglis, community council member, said: “Representatives from the design contractors Ineos has employed for the power plant will be coming along to explain their intentions.

“The road closure issue will be on the table for discussion as well and we will try to get an understanding of what it is Ineos is trying to achieve. They will also be able to get an understanding about how residents feel about the plans.”

The meeting will take place from 7pm at the Community Education Unit, in Abbots Road and members of the public are invited to attend.
