With more than 277,000 followers, the Worldwide Santas Christmas Eve Jingle Facebook group has raised enough funds to pay for a day at Maggie’s Forth Valley (FV).

The event, set up by Falkirk woman Lauren Sinclair and friend Terri Niven, has helped to cover the cost of Christmas Eve itself at the Larbert facility.

The duo devised the idea as a way of spreading Christmas cheer at the end of a demanding year by encouraging families to ring festive bells outside their homes at 6pm on December 24.

They were approached by Falkirk district singer-songwriter Dionne Hickey who suggested supporting Maggie’s FV and donating the £2400 required to pay for a day at the service.

In just a few weeks, the group raised £2490. The total was boosted by an additional £457 in Gift Aid donations.

Lauren said: “We are so happy to have been able to raise enough to pay for a day at Maggie’s Forth Valley.

“It feels like such a tangible outcome to know that we have provided all the incredible support – from trained staff to support groups and the tea and coffee served – on offer to people living with cancer, as well as their family and friends, for a whole day.

“It’s a no-brainer that we use this money to pay for Christmas Eve.”

As the number of people living with cancer increases, it is essential they are able to find the practical and emotional support needed to cope with the changes that life after cancer brings.

That’s where Maggie’s steps in, as it offers a way of living well with the disease.

This includes ensuring people with cancer, as well as their family and friends, are really listened to and offered tailored individual support, group support and practical advice by qualified professionals.

Cristina Pouso, fundraising manager, said: “We are so grateful that the Worldwide Santas Christmas Eve Jingle is paying for Christmas Eve at Maggie’s Forth Valley.

“We depend entirely on voluntary donations to allow us to deliver our unique programme of support for people living with cancer and to be able to offer that support to everyone who needs it.”
