Unemployment level on the rise in Falkirk

The number of unemployed people claiming Universal Credit in the Falkirk area went up in November compared to the previous month.

According to recent Department of Work and Pension (DWP) figures the claimant count for Falkirk, as of November 12, 2020, stands at 13,910 compared to 13,719 recorded on October 8 – a 1.4 per cent increase.

That’s almost 200 more people claiming Universal Credit in the space of a month.

In Scotland there were 474,881 Universal Credit claimants as of November 12, compared to 467,512 on October 8 – that’s a 1.6 per cent increase.

Locally job centres are continuing recruitment work with businesses like McDonalds, Central Union Direct and Timber Components in an effort to get people back working again and cut down on the Universal Credit claims.

The DWP has provided a £20 a week rise to all Universal Credit claimants this year to help them deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
