Tamfourhill Community Hub’s food shed, food larder, emergency packages and drop-off and pick-up services have proved crucial in supporting those in need to get by over the past year.

The demand has increased to such an extent, those behind the scenes at the Machrie-Court based initiative believe their help will be required long-term.

Hub member Lynne Boslan said: “We never thought the food provision service would last this long, but it’ll be ongoing after the pandemic because I think it’ll be needed.”

The public can “help themselves” to products from Tamfourhill Community Hub’s food shed where everything is donated by Falkirk district stores.

To help cut the cost of weekly food shops, bags of items handed out at its food larder are priced at £2 each.

Explaining the benefits of its emergency packages, Ms Boslan said: “People can phone up and get a seven-day emergency food parcel.

“We deliver or you can pick it up. A lot of people use it more than once because of the circumstances at the moment. Everybody’s needs are different.

“People message us or we’re contacted by the council. We try to get a delivery driver out the next day.

“We also do hot food. Cyrenians help us us and others will come in and make meals for the older category. Again, we can drop it off or they can pick it up.

“If someone is isolating with Covid, we’ll drop food off at the door and leave – a lot of people use that service.

“We also do children’s food provision during the school holidays, breakfast packs and family meals.

“Every day we do a different meal. Through that we’ve done Zoom cooking sessions; we find families engage more when they do something as a group.

“We’re also doing prescription pick-ups in the area.”

The hub can be contacted from Monday to Friday, 9am-3pm for food provision on 01324 610905 or 07796590808.

Its food larder is open from 11am until 3pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
