Stenhousemuir man (79) dies after car crash at recycling centre

Police have now named the 79-year-old man who died following a road traffic incident at Roughmute recycling centre.

Last Friday morning a car driven by William Russell Sharp, from Stenhousemuir, crashed into a barrier at the site, in Bogton Road, near Bonnybridge, and police and ambulance personnel rushed to the scene.

Sadly Mr Sharp died at Forth Valley Royal Hospital a day later.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We can confirm the 79-year-old man who died following a road traffic crash in the Bonnybridge area on Friday, June 19., 2020 has been named as William Russell Sharp from Stenhousemuir.

“The incident happened around 8.20am at Roughmute Recycling Centre and Mr Sharp was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital where he sadly died on Saturday, June 20.”

Sergeant David Ross, of Stirling Road Policing Unit, added: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Sharp’s family at this sad time. There were no other vehicles or individuals involved in the incident.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Falkirk Council spokesman said: “Around 8.10am a member of the public driving their car out of Roughmute crashed into a barrier when leaving the site. Employees carried out first aid and an ambulance arrived and took the individual to hospital.

“As a precaution, the site was closed for around an hour.”
