South Queensferry’s Ferry Fair up in the air due to Covid-19

This year’s Ferry Fair festival in South Queensferry is still in the balance with organisers weighing up two options for the August event.

In this challenging time, the Ferry Fair Committee wanted to let people know what it has been doing.

At the moment the committee is planning for two scenarios – a stripped-down version of the Fair on August 15; or if rules on large gatherings are still in place, it will not take place on the High Street as normal.

In a statement, the Ferry Fair Committee said: “Through generous fundraising and donations the Fair has been able to put on a fun filled week year on year. But this year is very different.

“If we are able to hold the Fair in August this will need to be different to previous years.

“We wholeheartedly appreciate and support that previous sponsors and donators are diverting their support to the community and our NHS during the Covid-19 crisis.

“We are therefore working with a much reduced budget, so for now we are only planning Ferry Fair Day (Saturday, August 15), and we’re exploring options on how to best do this.

“There will not be the usual array of bands and entertainment, although Queensferry Memorial Pipe Band have very kindly offered to support the Fair in anyway they can. We’ll try to get creative and still be able to have a fun filled, if socially distanced, day.

“The programme is a lovely memento each year and this year will be no exception. This year the programme will not contain adverts from local businesses. At this unprecedented time we have taken the decision not to approach any local businesses when funds are tight.

“The Committee hope you understand our decision to support local businesses this way.

“This is a fluid situation so as things evolve we will continue to post on Facebook and update the website www.ferryfair.co.uk.

“We are still hoping for the best and planning for the worst, so we are delighted to say we have our Gracious Lady for 2020, Mrs Ruth Bailey. Congratulations Ruth!

“We thank you all for your continued support and hope we are still able to give Queensferry a fun Ferry Fair.”
