Sophie's brave shave for Women's Aid

Sophie Farrell (18), a volunteer with Committed to Ending Abuse (CEA), formerly known as Women’s Aid, was so impressed with the organisation and what it was doing to help people affected by abuse, she decided to make a statement and coin in cash for CEA at the same time.

Her sponsored head shave has raised over £1000 so far, with money still coming in.

CEA crisis support worker Joanne Brown was with Sophie at Ruby Tuesdays in Mary Street, Laurieston, when stylist Scott McAleese engaged the clippers.

Joanne said: “Sophie has been a volunteer with CEA for the past year and has been saying since Christmas she wanted to do something to raise funds. We all kept putting her off, saying don’t get your hair cut, but she was determined to do it.

“She got all the sponsor sheets and collected all the donations herself. It’s fantastic what she has done and how much she has raised – especially for someone so young.”

Sophie said: “All of the CEA workers go above and beyond to support their clients in every way and they have provided me with invaluable experience so I wanted to give them something in return. When someone asks me about my hair I’m able to tell them why I did it and raise awareness.”
