Royal seal of approval for Brigade boys

Five member of the Boys' Brigade recently celebrated receiving the organisation's highest award.

All were recipients of the Queen’s Badge and was the culmination in two years of hard work.

Ross Wilson, Ewan McDonald, Gregor Stirling and David Wright are all members of 2nd Larbert company of the Boys’ Brigade.

They received their badges at the annual inspection which took place in Ladeside Primary School in Larbert.

The presentation was made by Linda Simpson, a fundraiser with the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, and who was also attending to present a cheque from the company.

Brian Allan, company captain, congratulated the boys – three of whom he has known since they started in the Anchor Boys – for all their efforts to become Queen’s Men.

The company, which was founded in 1903 and is affiliated to Larbert Old Church, returns for its new session on Friday, August 26 and is open to boys from P1 to S6.

Alex Kidd receiving his Queen’s Badge was the highlight of 3rd Falkirk company’s display and presentation.

With 70 members of the Anchor Boys, Junior Section and Company Section attending the event in Falkirk High School, there were also four Duke of Edinburgh Silver Awards and seven President’s Badges presented. Two senior boys were also made warrant officers.

Russell Croal, Company Section officer in charge, said: “Our display was a great night – it was fantastic for all three sections to join together to celebrate the achievement of the last 12 months.

“The highlight had to be presenting Alex with his Queen’s Badge. Having been a member of the company for many years he has put a lot of time into working through the various stages of the award.”
