SP Energy Networks will be carrying out the essential upgrade this weekend when a team will be deployed to replace several overhead power cables – some of which are 70 years old and no longer fit for purpose – and install alternate electricity poles.

As a result of this work, a section of the M9 and M876 east and west bound near Hill of Kinnaird slip road 7 will be closed from 8pm on Saturday April 17 until 8am on Sunday, April 18.

Ross Galbraith, SP Energy Networks general manager, said: “The work being carried out on the local electrical network is essential to ensure the reliability of supplies. We’re also installing additional capacity to support the ongoing economic growth in the area, which is a key priority for us.

“The network has performed well over the course of its lifespan, but now requires modernisation and parts of our network that are over 70 years old in places are being replaced, including those power lines that cross the motorway.

“We’ve developed a work programme that aims to minimise disruption and therefore the slip road closure that has been planned will see our teams working through the night when traffic on the road will be at its lowest volume.

“When complete, residents and business in the Bathgate and Blackburn area will benefit from better network performance and improved security of supply.”
