Retro Nostalgia 1992: Wartime tunes to the fore

Denny children were on song as they stepped back in time.

Primary 7a pupils at Head of Muir School put on a nostalgic show for pensioners and parents.

They recaptured the musical melodies of World War One in a concert organised by class teacher Mrs Chris Stewart.

The 10 and 11 year olds helped to organise their own costumes which included kilts and Glengarries for the boys and sweeping skirts, high-necked blouses and period hats for the girls.

The school’s music teacher compiled a tape to teach the children the classic war-time favourites.

Mrs Stewart (64) said: ‘‘The concert was part of a project on the period 1902 to 1926.

‘‘They sang a selection of famous war songs.’’
