Retro Nostalgia 1987: Bairns and East Stirling move to appoint new managers

Falkirk’s two clubs were involved in a top level shake-out this week.

Within 48 hours both Falkirk FC and East Stirling FC parted company with their managers and both clubs have appointed new bosses.

On Wednesday manager Billy Lamont – the man who took Falkirk into the Premier League less than nine months ago – resigned as boss of the Brockville side.

Two days earlier Dave Whiteford was sacked as manager of East Stirling after less than two years in the job at Firs Park.

Within hours of Mr Lamont’s resignation Falkirk FC’s directors announced that Dave Clarke (pictured), presently part-time manager of East Fife had been hired as the new Falkirk boss on a full-time basis.

At Firs Park on Monday night the East Stirling board announced that its new boss would be Dennis Lawson, an ex-coach with St Johnstone and Falkirk. Lamont’s resignation was not unexpected. Falkirk has not won a match in their last eight outings and there were signs among Bairns’ fans of growing unhappiness.

And with East Stirling languishing at the bottom of Division Two, Whiteford was sacrificed.
