Retro News 1990: Whengate ready to become Howgate!

The Falkirk Herald is this week able to give its readers a glimpse of the new Howgate shopping mall.

The multi-million pound mall will open its doors to the public on Saturday, April 14, but local residents have been warned not to expect wall-to-wall shops just yet.

This week one of the men behind the project, Eagle Star’s Stan Perry, estimated only around ten stores would be open for business on the launch date.

These will include Marks & Spencer and Woolworths which are extending into the centre.

Mr Perry said: ‘‘The first day the doors are open, and that is assuming we have the certificates in place, I don’t think there will be more than ten shops open. I anticipate 18 to 20 will be fitting out premises.
