An application from developers Guinea Properties should be before Falkirk District Council in the next week or two.

To fit in with the development – and other major projects in the town – Central Regional Council is thought to be considering extending the pedestrian area into Callendar Riggs and providing an alternative road, possibly by Bellsmeadow.

A multi-storey car park with 500 spaces is part of the shopping centre plan.

The regional council has confirmed that a satisfactory ground lease and development agreement was concluded with Guinea Properties on the deadline date – February 18.

Chairman of the Callendar Riggs shopping centre special committee, Councillor Raymond Montgomery, expressed his delight.

‘‘I’m very pleased our efforts have allowed a legal agreement to be concluded which binds Guinea Properties to carry out their ambitious proposals for a new-look centre,’’ he said.
