Remembering Neil '“ and helping Millie

Generous friends and family of a schoolboy who died ten years ago raised almost £1800 to help a toddler who battled a rare cancer.

The money came from a charity football match and family fun day at Ochilview Park on July 10.

Friends of Neil Forrester, who was only 15 when he died in 2006, organised the memorial trophy match – also known as ‘The Weegie Cup’ after his nickname.

All the cash went to Millie McColl (4) from Airth who is currently in remission from stage 4 Neuroblastoma but whose family is still fundraising to take her to America for a trial drug which could stop the disease returning.

The match’s final score was 9-3 with Neil’s Valley team coming out on top against the Stenhousemuir team. The winning trophy was presented by Neil’s sister Neive Forrester (7).

Neil’s mum, Marie Edmondson, said: “I’m so touched by all of the hard work, determination and effort that Neil’s friends put in to make the memorial football game happen.

“The fantastic turnout showed that Neil is still held dearly in the hearts of many in the community and it was lovely that Millie had a strong show of support.

“I’d like to thank everyone, it meant so much to my family and Millie’s. I know Neil would have been honoured to play a part in raising funds for Millie’s Journey”.
