Medal haul for dancing girls

At the dancing competition – which involves dancers from 36 different countries – there was particular success for nine-year-old twins Carmen and Ava Judge of McKechnie School of Dance in Grangemouth.

Ava won gold for her song and dance routine and took home a bronze for her modern.

Carmen won gold for her tap routine and a bronze for her Acro.

And together they clinched another gold for their song and dance duet - making a total of three world championships between them.

Nadine said: “We were amazed at how well they did - I’m still pinching myself. We really just went for the experience and to be part of it - it was thrilling to represent Scotland and just amazing to do so well.”

It was a week of triumphs for the dance school, with fellow pupil Matilda Jackson taking home two bronze 
medals, one for song and dance and one for tap, while Millie Wright won bronze for Acro.

Nadine said: “I’m absolutely over the moon, but it wouldn’t have mattered if they hadn’t won. It was 
just so amazing to be part of it.

“It was only when we saw the final ceremony that we could appreciate the scale of the event. To see everyone with their flags was really emotional. The atmosphere was incredible.

“I must thank everyone for their incredible support with all the fundraising and good wishes. We were sponsored by Barrhead Travel and the Claremont Inn, so we’d like to thank them too.”

Other Team Scotland members from the local area included Central Scotland Ballet School’s Serena McCall, who carried the country’s flag in the opening parade.

She got a sixth place for her Classical Solo and received two bronze medals for jazz duet/trio sections.

The hip hop duet between Dayna Lipski and Laura Stirling also gained a bronze 
medal.

And dancers from CSBS were also in action at the ECU European Championships in Vienna, where their Starshine Elite team gained fifth place - which was also first in UK placings.
