MBE for dedicated Forth Valley Royal Hospital volunteer

A retired NHS worker continued to serve the local community through years of volunteering at Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) and has now been named in the Queen's New Years honours.

Rosemary Fletcher (72), from Stirling, gained her MBE for the commitment she gave to her voluntary work at the Larbert hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She has spent the past decade volunteering at FVRH and co-ordinated the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) in NHS Forth Valley – a programme run by the UK volunteering charity Volunteering Matters which encourages and assists older people to use their skills and experience to volunteer and keep active in retirement.

Mrs Fletcher has made a huge impact at FVRH, recruiting and supporting over 100 people each year to volunteer in the hospital, working closely with the hospital

staff to identify suitable volunteers to provide help and comfort to patients, and also keep family and friends informed while their loved ones are undergoing treatment.

As well as being the organiser for all the RSVP volunteers in the hospital, she has developed a number of new projects to support patients and visitors across the hospital.

No stranger to awards, Mrs Fletcher was recognised for her work receiving Older Volunteer of the Year at the 2018 Volunteering Matters Volunteer Awards.

She is leading the way in helping Volunteering Matters reshape the programme so that it is sustainable and fit for the future.

Since the pandemic struck, she has been shielding but she has not let this stop her volunteering her organisational skills through online sessions.
