Parents Alasdair Fowlie (36) and Karlijn Kuipers (33) were there for the magical moment at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

The family are now home and proud mother Ms Kuipers says they couldn’t be happier with what turned out to be the perfect Christmas present.

She said: “Millie is good. She’s lying sleeping in my chair and I’m trying to get all the naps I can here and there!

“She was due on December 15. My other little one turned three on December 20 and I remember thinking, ‘Stay in today’ because no child wants to share their birthday!

“The other day I had in my mind not to deliver was December 25 because the child would have to share the day and presents!

“It started on Christmas Eve at 7am. I thought, ‘I’ve got more than 12 hours to deliver this baby today’. I was doing big walks.

“As soon as she came all of the worries just fell away.”

Choosing a name for their little bundle of joy proved to be a welcome challenge for the couple, as Ms Kuipers explained: “I was convinced it was a boy during the pregnancy.

“Everybody laughed because there was shock on my face! It took us 12 hours to name her because we had to see what she looked like.

“Alasdair works for the fire department and I run a ten-pin bowling business which has been shut since March so I had the most relaxed pregnancy ever!

“The staff have been so kind and really gone out of the way to make sure the baby and I are comfortable. When I got to the ward I was handed perfume as a gift and Millie got a wee hat. I thought it was a nice wee touch.

“A massive thank you to the NHS staff for working on days you’d want to spend with your family.”
