Larbert mum says thanks to son’s carers

Gill Parker, who lives in Larbert, has been unable to see her son Ross (22) for six weeks because of the cornovirus pandemic.

She said: “He lives in his own flat about 600 yards away as the crow flies, but it might as well be 600 miles at the moment!”

The team from C-Change Scotland, who normally support Ross getting out and about, have been looking after him in his home 24 hours a day –  and their presence has been a great comfort to Gill through this difficult time.

When she spotted online that an independent business was struggling with the impact of coronavirus, she hit on the idea of supporting the firm, while also thanking Ross’s carers.

She said: “A few weeks back, a company I follow, Kitkase, were talking about the difficulties faced by small independent businesses at this time.  They make the loveliest modern luggage and travel bags.

“I see Ross’s team appearing every morning for what is now always a 24-hour shift with him.

“They invariably appear with handbags, carrier bags, laptop bags and numerous other bags!

“So, this got me thinking.  It seemed that there was an ideal opportunity to let the team know how much we value them and also do a bit for the economy.”

Generous Gill bought cabin cases for the whole team – including the workers who don’t stay overnight but support Ross in other practical ways, such as doing his shopping.

Aimee Fraser, a personal development worker with C-Change Scotland, was delighted with the thoughtful gift.

She said: “I think it was an amazing thing that Gill did for the whole staff team and it made me feel very appreciated during such difficult times .”

The company, Kitkase, were so impressed with Gill’s idea that they included free, matching umbrellas for the staff too.
