In an online post published today, Ineos stated: “As we re-start one of our manufacturing plants at the Grangemouth site, there will be spells of controlled elevated flaring though today and into tomorrow. This is part of the normal start up process.

“We will make every effort to reduce the level and duration of the flaring, including making use of a ground flare. We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our neighbours and those who work near to the site.

“We remain committed to informing you of any activities that may result in flaring and thank you for your understanding.”

This planned flaring follows on from a couple of days last week when an “operational issue” at an Ineos manufacturing unit resulted in elevated levels of flaring.
