Names inscribed on war memorials from battles fought more than 100 years ago to those who fought in more recent conflicts, including Iraq and Afghanistan, all were remembered.
In towns and villages, poppy wreaths were laid at memorial stones by veterans of the Armed Forces, as well as by schoolchildren and members of civilian and youth organisations.
The poignant two-minute silence was observed across the district to remember and give thanks for all those who laid down their lives.
