While some people may be tempted to travel from the Falkirk area’s outlying villages to town centre stores like Tesco, Asda and Morrisons for their supplies, they may risk a £60 fine from police.

The Scottish Government advises people to use online shopping if possible and only travel within their immediate area for essential shopping.

Police Scotland has stated it will step up patrols in communities to explain the regulations to members of the public.

Officers will only use enforcement as a last resort, if there is clear breach of the legislation.

According to the current laws, anyone over the age of 18 found to be in breach of the rules may be issued with a fine for £60 – which is reduced to £30 if paid within 28 days.
