Susan Thomson has had to curtail her Laundromut Dog Grooming business due to lock down restrictions, however, as a fully licensed dog boarder she found herself in position to help an NHS worker who was in a dilemma over what to do with her dog.

She said: “There are lots of home boarders our there, but not everyone is licensed. I can’t work as a dog groomer at the moment but a nurse came to me and said she was doing really long shifts and had no one to look after her dog during the day.

“So I let her dog stay here for the whole day and she came and picked her pet up when her shift was over. I kept to the guidelines of staying two metres away to stay safe.”

Based in King’s Road, Grangemouth, Susan works from a lodge in her garden, where her own golden retrievers Belle and Tara can often be found playing.

She is now ready, willing and able to help other key workers who find themselves in the same predicament the nurse did.

Susan said: “I have a licence issued by Falkirk Council and I am also fully insured. My home boarding diary has been wiped clean for the next few months, but after speaking to the council to gain support, I am able to offer day boarding for emergency workers who may be working longer hours, leaving their dogs at home for longer periods.

“Their dogs can come here and play with Belle and Tara and I can look after them while adhering to social isolation guidelines. Dogs can carry the coronavirus on their fur, but I have a dry shampoo that I can use to again help protect everyone.

“I’m only licensed to take two dogs at any one time and they have to be fully vaccinated and be happy playing with other dogs. I have lots of nice treats – I make my own.”
