Among those who regularly join in are the staff and residents at the Ark Housing residential home in Roxburgh Street, Grangemouth.

But this week they had some surprise guests to play the bagpipes for them during the 8pm clapping.

Thanks to Michael Sloan, a director of Grangemouth Tartan Taxis, three members of Camelon and District Pipe Band – Olivia Murray, Donna Murray and Zander Murray – turned up to play, much to the delight of residents and neighbours in the street.

Michael explained: “At present we are collecting staff and taking them to work so they are not using public transport to reduce the threat of cross contamination with the people they look after.

“One staff member was saying that the clap for NHS and carers was fantastic but it would be good if someone would come and play for them. So I have friends who play in the Camelon and District Pipe Band and arranged for them to come along.”

Michael and fellow director Louise McMeechan also handed over flowers and confectionery for the residents and staff.
