Grangemouth pug crosses Firth of Forth on surf board
Emergency services including the coast guard were alerted by a distraught dog owner who watched helplessly as his pet pug floated off in the Firth of Forth on a surf board earlier this morning.
The owner from Grangemouth who did not want to be named, said: “We were just messing around taking photos in the water and I dropped his lead. He just floated off.
"He was still standing up looking at me as he floated off into the distance out of sight.”
A call was put into the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and appliances sped to the scene, joined by the coast guard.
The small dog was thought to be lost, but amazingly he made it across to the other side and washed ashore in Culross, where he was found by a surprised dog walker.
An SFRS spokesperson said: “Thankfully the water was calm this morning and pugs have a low centre of gravity, making them ideal surfers.”
