Grangemouth businessman donates £5000 of tech to help schoolchildren

Amrit Dhillon handed over 24 Samsung tablets worth a total of £5000 to Barnardo's Falkirk Pathways initiative so they can be used by those who need them most.

Barnardo's Falkirk Pathways provides support to youngsters in partnership with primary and secondary schools in Falkirk.

This support takes place both in school and outwith and aims to increase attainment and help the school support children who experience barriers to learning.

Mr Dhillon, a regular supporter of charities like including Strathcarron Hospice, was more than happy to help.

He said: “Candied has three pillars to the business – high quality ingredients and products, exemplary customer service and making a positive contribution to the communities

within which we operate.

"This ghastly virus has caused immeasurable damage to the lives and education of our young people, the future professionals and wealth generators of our economy. It is

our duty to support them now when their need is so critical.

“The way they are now having to learn and absorb knowledge has changed with remote learning. We must try to ensure every child, regardless of financial circumstances, has access to the tools required to learn.

“It’s a basic human right in my opinion. In the society that we all what to create, financial disadvantage should never be a barrier to a child’s education and opportunity.”

The donation of £5000 worth of tablets means Mr Dhillon and Candied, which has branches in Grangemouth, Denny and Rumford, have now donated over £40,000 to worthy causes in just three-and-a-half years.

Mr Dhillon has set a target to donate £100,000 to good causes by the end of 2023.I must extend a heartfelt thanks to the entire Candied family and customers.

“If we are not helping others we are not honouring our business commitment. Yes, we are a commercial enterprise but through service to others we can become so much

more – that’s my vision.

“Without the incredible support of our customers, the business would not be afforded the honour of being able to support our community. I am immensely grateful to each and every

one of them.

“The business would not exist without their help.”
