Forth Valley College welcomes new law on provision of free period products

Forth Valley College has welcomed the new Bill which will make Scotland the world’s first country to provide free period products.

Monica Lennon MSP’s Bill was unanimously endorsed by the Scottish Parliament and will become law.

The Scottish Labour’s Health spokesperson has been campaigning on this issue since 2016 and visited the college in August 2018, to back the free sanitary product distribution service available at its three campuses.

Forth Valley College’s free female sanitary product initiative also received £51,000 from the Scottish Funding Council to support the initiative.

Since the lockdown started the college has already sent 14 orders to Hey Girls and helped a total of 129 students, supplying 639 products.

Pauline Donaldson, soft services and sustainability manager, said: “During lockdown we have been helping students as much as we can to support Period Dignity - but we want to make even more and encourage more students to contact us if they can benefit from the service.
