Falkirk Wheel: Watch light display on iconic landmark to mark Remembrance Day

The landmark lit up on Wednesday evening with a light display to remember the fallen war heroes.

The projection lasted 30 minutes and attendees who were invited to the evening event were asked to social distance and Covid restrictions were in place.

Previously The Falkirk Wheel has only lit up in block colours, until this year.

In the summer of 2020, a Thank You NHS display was projected to recognise and celebrate the country’s key workers and the work they were doing throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

Due to public health restrictions, much of the public was asked to observe the two minute silence at 11am from the comfort of their homes on Wednesday.

Nicola Sturgeon paid tribute to the nation's war dead.

The First Minister said the sacrifice of those who "helped to secure the freedoms we enjoy today" must never be forgotten.

She added it "reminds all of us of the devastating cost of war".

The First Minister said: "On the 11th of November 1918 the guns fell silent and the First World War came to an end.

"Every year, on Remembrance Day, we commemorate that event. We remember those who died in that war and in subsequent conflicts.

Ms Sturgeon observed the two-minute silence at St Andrew's House in Edinburgh alongside service personnel from the Navy, Army and RAF.
