Macy Lawrence (10) is now looking forward to her 100th DJ set – and final appearance – on Saturday.

Graeme Place residents in Falkirk’s Lionthorn estate are going to hold G in the Place and mark the occasion with their own street party.

Mum Claire explained how it had all started: “Our neighbours Alistair Forbes and Keith Mackie set up a street Whatsapp group at the beginning of this pandemic to enable us to support one another.

“It was to collect shopping and prescriptions if needed or to offer comfort and someone to talk too, alleviating isolation. There was a suggestion about playing music requests and Macy said she wanted to do it.

“Since then she has become the resident DJ. It started with one request per house every night, starting at 8pm, but it has grown to being several from each household. She also plays Stevie Wonder’s Happy Birthday whenever anyone is celebrating their big day.

“It has been well supported by all the neighbours who come out for a dance – observing social distancing rules of course.”

The residents marked the 50th and 75th night but this Saturday are looking forward to Macy’s final appearance with a party involving pizza, Macy’s special rainbow cakes, and of course lots of music.

Macy’s proud mum and dad David were delighted when neighbours presented the Comely Park youngster with a gift for all her efforts to cheer them up.

But this hasn’t been Macy’s only efforts to help others.

Two years ago the keen young baker raised £350 for Strathcarron Hospice selling her own cakes and she also had her hair cut to donate to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who lose their own hair following cancer treatment.

In January, the youngster heard about fundraising to send Braes teenager Ashlee Easton to New York for vital cancer treatment. She told her family that she wanted to help and by hosting an afternoon tea and raffle in her home she raised £1700.

Claire added: “Macy is just an amazing young person. I am so proud of her and how she has managed to make this difficult time fun, and kept everyone laughing with her wit and sense of humour.”
