Falkirk performers entertain us with online advent calendar

Falkirk’s Cheryl Forbes and husband Gordon Cree are just two of the talented turns featured on the YouTube channel – which has a performance every day in the run up to Christmas.

The Musical Advent is a series of videos which showcases the couple’s performing pals.

A spokesperson for the Musical Advent Calendar said: “There can be no doubt 2020 has been a hard year for all of us. In the arts, work all but stopped, immediately, for everyone. Diaries wiped out for over a year.

“With bills mounting up, families to provide for and unable to give live performances, things were desperate. Some of us were lucky enough to receive government and/or charitable support but for many others, sadly, this wasn’t the case.

“Some were excluded from Government support schemes and assistance from charitable organisations and they had to retrain, quickly, in other sectors, and learn new skills just to keep a roof over their heads.

“Sadly, some made the heartbreaking decision to leave their beloved professions after over 20 years of a career and the many years of training it took to get there. The instability was too great a weight to carry.

“For others, during their darkest days, they decided to get creative and used their talents for good and to do some incredible things. So, because we can’t do the thing we love this Christmas, perform live, we thought we’d still try to bring a little festive cheer by creating something very special with our amazing pals with the aim of making Christmas a little lighter for them too.

“Our Musical Advent calendar features our dearest friends performing and reciting some of their favourite music and words just for you. This musical advent calendar allows us to connect with you despite the obstacles – and maybe, if you dig deep, and I know this is a hard time for everyone, it will provide some much needed financial security for these special artists for the months ahead.”
