The new payment of £8,651.13 – which takes the total amount awarded across the local area to £12,383.48 this year – comes from the Co-op’s Local Community Fund, which is generated by members trading across the Co-op’s businesses and sees them picking local causes to support each year.

Rebecca Birkbeck, director of community and shared value at the Co-op, said: “The Co-op Local Community Fund supports grass-roots projects across the UK that our members really care about.

The Falkirk area groups sharing in the funding are Under The Trees Ltd ( £895.57), 93rd Braes Scout Group (£865.27), Denny and Dunipace Pipe Band Association (£779.08), Falkirk and District Association for Mental Health (£995.76), Laurieston Church Hall (£1000.25), Forth Valley Visually Impaired Bowling Club (£781.36), Blood Bikes Scotland EVS (£1029.07), Syngenta Juveniles Cerebral Palsy FC (£924.02) and Strathcarron Hospice (£1380.75).

Mrs Birkbeck said: “We know that it has been an incredibly challenging time for local causes, as support decreases and demand increases. As of this week, two million members have now selected a cause to support, since the Local Community Fund began in 2016, which is a real landmark for us.

“We encourage everyone to engage with the amazing groups and organisations on their doorstep, to help them weather the storm.”
