Falkirk Cineworld reportedly closing down as James Bond's latest mission is delayed

It appears the latest James Bond film being delayed has been the final nail in the coffin for Falkirk’s Cineworld.

While the Falkirk Herald is still awaiting a response from Cineworld to confirm if its Falkirk Central Retail Park premises will be closing down, there have been reports Cineworld is shutting 543 of its venues in the USA and all cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

It is believed the cinema chain will close all sites in both countries in the coming week.

Cineworld is understood to be contacting Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden to explain the exhibition sector is “unviable”.

They say this is due to studios delaying their big new releases – like the forthcoming Bond film No Time to Die – because they are worried audiences are staying away from cinemas amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Cineworld closures will put up to 5500 jobs at risk in the UK.
