Falkirk charity wins £5000 from housebuilder

A local charity which supports youngsters with disabilities has been award £5000 from Persimmon Homes.

PLUS Forth Valley is one of the organisations to share in the £1 million fund of the hugely successful Persimmon Homes Building Futures campaign.

The charity breaks down the barriers often experienced by children with disabilities. The group believes these children have as much right as anyone else to an ordinary social life and that disabilities are no barrier to having fun.

PLUS will used the money to provide opportunities for young people with additional support needs to develop some independence from their parents and carers, while spending time with their peers through a choice of activities and projects.

Neil Parry, director in charge at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “The Building Futures scheme has been a great success and it is wonderful to celebrate the fantastic work of so many organisations supporting young people in our communities.

“We have been overwhelmed by both the response to the competition, and the hard work and dedication of those involved within all the groups.”

The prize winners were decided by a public vote and around 400,000 votes were cast.

The winners were announced during a virtual event, presented by Dame Katherine Grainger DBE, chair of UK Sport and Great Britain’s most decorated female Olympian, alongside Persimmon Homes Group CEO Dean Finch.

During April and May, Building Futures also gave away £1000 each to 128 organisations supporting young people in sport, education and arts and health throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
