Persimmon Homes East Scotland shortlisted the good causes to represent the region in its Building Futures scheme, which is giving away £1 million nationally this year to projects that benefit under 18-year-olds.

Each of Persimmon’s 32 operating businesses selected groups from three categories targeting grassroots sports groups, health organisations and arts and education projects.

The group believes these children have as much right as anyone else to an ordinary social life and that disabilities are no barrier to having fun.

If they received the top prize or the second and third prizes of £50,000 and £20,000 they would used the money to help to provide opportunities for young people with additional support needs to develop some independence from their parents and carers, while spending time with their peers through a choice of activities and projects.

Persimmon director Neil Parry said: “Building Futures aims to create a lasting legacy for young people and the groups that support them. It is clear there are a lot of very worthy causes supporting the younger generation and we wish our finalists the best of luck.”

Building Futures is being delivered through the Persimmon Charitable Foundation, which last year donated £1.7 million to community projects and charities.
