Falkirk-born couple celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

A Falkirk-born couple didn’t let lockdown stop them celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.

Although Alan and Jean Abercrombie couldn’t have lots of guests at a party they did mark this special occasion with a family meal.Alan was born in 1936 and Jean a year later.It was while both were pupils at Graeme High School that they met and a few years later on September 6, 1960 they married in Falkirk’s Erskine Church, followed by a reception at the Plough Hotel in Larbert.They had two sons, Derek born in 1964 and Colin three years later.When they bought a house in Main Street, Brightons little did the couple think that they would be there for over 50 years.They only recently moved to a flat in Dunblane to be nearer son Colin and daughter-in-law Mary.Alan spent his entire career at ICI Chemicals in Grangemouth, while Jean worked in various clerical roles, including many years working for Refuge Assurance in Lint Riggs, Falkirk.A keen bridge player, for many years Alan was treasurer of the ICI Bridge Club.Jean’s love of history saw here become a founder member of Falkirk Historical Society and she held the role of treasurer for many years.

She was also an active member of Brightons Parish Church.On their anniversary they enjoyed a meal at the Riverside Restaurant in Dunblane, with a few close family members.

It was a chance to reflect on six decades of marriage and look forward to many more.
