Denny five-year-old walking 5km for five days straight for family support service

Alex Jeffrey, of Denny, explained to her parents she would like to help people in need during a conversation about life amid a pandemic.
That discussion led to the Denny Primary School youngster drawing up her fundraising plan on behalf of Home-Start Falkirk – one that’s so far generated an incredible £1200 for the volunteer-led network.

Mum Sally said: “After discussing with Alex how tough it was for a lot of people, including ourselves at the moment, she decided she wanted to do something to help.
“Home-Start is based just up the road. We initially wanted to raise £100 and set up a JustGiving page on Monday of last week. By 10.30am we were at £200.
“Alex is really thoughtful and is always thinking of others so an act of kindness like this isn’t phasing her. She’s looking forward to walking this week with her one-year-old brother and her dad and I in our homemade T-shirts!

“We actually ended up doing slightly over the 5k and incorporated a bit of homeschooling as well as Alex had to hunt a haggis which she had made before her walk!
“The money raised means an awful lot for Denny, especially during these times. We are happy to raise awareness and spread a bit of hope during what is a very hard January for so many.
“People have been very generous so far. We are overwhelmed.
“Alex is a very kind and determined young lady and we are so proud of her.”
