'Couldn’t ask for a better start to 2021': Proud Edinburgh parents welcome one of first babies of 2021 into the world

Over-the-moon parents Jennifer and Richard Paton from Edinburgh have welcomed one of the first babies of the New Year as bundles of joy across Scotland are welcomed into the world.

The couple from Ratho, Edinburgh were blessed this New Year with a very special new arrival last night.

Taking her first footing, Isabelle Ailsa Paton was born in Simpson’s Centre for Reproductive Health at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at 00.54am.

The New Year baby tipped the scales at a healthy 6lb 8 ½ oz.

Parents Jennifer and Richard Paton, aged 32 and 33, could not think of a better way to kickstart the new year as they were introduced to their baby girl.

Delighted dad Richard said: “Absolutely delighted with our little Isabelle.

"Couldn’t ask for a better start to 2021.

"We are very grateful for all the amazing staff in the Royal Infirmary, they were fantastic”

In Glasgow, Finn Docherty was the first baby to be born on New Year’s Day.

Lauren Docherty, 27, gave birth to the baby boy at 1.58am at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital weighing 8lb 3oz, the same as his big brother Logan - now 18 months old - weighed at birth.

New year baby Finn was celebrated amidst the booming of fireworks by Ms Docherty and her partner Brad Girvan, 28 who live in the west side of the city.

Meanwhile in Falkirk, baby Ivy was among the New Year arrivals at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.

Jade Burns and Billy McKnight from Carronshore, welcomed their new daughter into the world at 6.18am, weighing 7lb 15oz.

The birth of Ivy comes after a special delivery for a Larbert couple who celebrated the arrival of their newborn daughter on Christmas Day.

In Fife, 30 year-old Morgan,gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Guy Ted Halley.

Parents Morgan and Brett aged 32, from Windygates welcomed their their New Year baby boy with joy.

Healthy Ted weighed 7lb 8oz at 09.02am this morning.

A spokesman for NHS Fife said he is the only New Year’s baby to be born in Fife so far.

The special delivery comes after two couples in the Kingdom welcomed newborn babies at Christmas.
