Cliff fall rescue near Queensferry Crossing by coastguard

A lifeboat and helicopter were called following a late night incident which saw a casualty fall 30ft down a cliff onto rocks near the Queensferry Crossing last weekend.

An emergency call out was made to the coastguard after the casualty fell down the cliff on the shore of the River Forth between Rosyth and the Queensferry Crossing at 10.41pm on Saturday.

The casualty was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by helicopter after it managed to land on the shoreline.

Along with the coastguard helicopter, coastguard teams from South Queensferry, Kinghorn and the Scottish Ambulance Service attended.

A Queensferry Lifeboat statement said: “The lifeboat stood by near the shore while coastguard and paramedics assessed the best way to evacuate the casualty from the challenging area.

“The coastguard helicopter rescue 199, based at Prestwick, were able to land on the shoreline and once safely in the helicopter they transferred the casualty directly to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

“South Queensferry coastguard, Kinghorn coastguard and a SORT team from Scottish Ambulance Service were in attendance shoreside. The lifeboat was stood down once it was confirmed that everyone was safely clear of the shoreline.

“A late one for everyone involved, but as always the crews from all services in attendance were just happy to be able to help when needed.

“Please remember, in an emergency on or near the water, always dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
