With support from family and the community Hailey Whyte (7), collected a huge raft of items in just one week for the free food larder in Falkirk’s Manor Street, run by Community Focus Scotland, as she looked to earn her latest badge.

The youngster, who is a member of the Second Carronshore Brownies, chose the charity herself, before setting about collecting items.

Her mum, Stacey Munro said: “Hailey only joined Brownies last year and has been busy working her way through the badges.

“She wanted to do her charity badge and was asking what charities we had round about, so we were talking to her about some of the local ones that would benefit more.

“Community Focus Scotland’s food larder was one of them. We explained it’s for people that aren’t as well off as you, and that don’t have money to buy food and maybe they have families who are hungry.

“She said she’d really like to help them because ‘I don’t like being hungry so they might not like being hungry, and I don’t want them to be hungry’.

“To start it off she took some of her own money and went to the supermarket to buy some things herself. “She made a video and I put it on Facebook and Twitter and people wanted to help her.

“We ran it for a week and she collected a really good amount. She then took it along to Community Focus Scotland.

“She’s learned a lot. She wanted to do it on her own. The only way she’d let me help her was to post the video online and show people what she was doing.

“I couldn’t be any more proud of her.”

Annette Toner, CEO and founder of Community Focus Scotland, said: “We were amazed, she brought a wee tear to my eye. I wish there were more like her in the community.

“Through her single act of kindness she supported over 30 families within the local area that morning.

“She had thought of everything, she had food and toilettries. It made a massive difference to our users.”

Now the charity badge is complete, what one will Hailey be aiming for next?

“She’s not looked yet, but I’m sure she will be on to the next one quickly,” added Stacey.
