Brides are not meant to run 40 miles into another district on their wedding day but these are strange times we are living in.

Had it not been for the COVID-19 crisis Joda Quigley (39), a gold medal winning boxer and fitness instructor, would have been tying the knot with fiance John Denovan (42), on Friday, July 3.

Unfortunately the couple have been forced to postpone the happy event until 2021.

That has not stopped them making it a special day, however.

Joda said: “We were due to get married on July 3, but rather than let the day pass we thought we could do a charity challenge. I’m also turning 40 on July 11 so that’s where I got the idea to run 40 miles to mark that.

“John and I are running from our house in Camelon to Rosyth and back again, starting at around 9am and hopefully finishing back at the house again at around 3pm. I’ve never run as far as this before.”

The couple will be running to raise funds for Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and have already coined in almost £400.

When daughter Tamzen was struck down by potentially deadly meningitis over a decade ago the hospital staff were on hand to save her and nurse her back to full health.

Now she and her sisters Taylor and Tara will be at the start and the finish line to cheer on the couple.

Wedding bells may not be ringing on July 3, but Joda will be adding one special touch as a nod to the couple’s delayed nuptials.

“I’m running with a veil on,” said Joda. “I don’t think I could make it 40 miles in a wedding dress. It’s going to be a strange day but instead of feeling sorry for ourselves we thought we would try and do some good instead.”
