Stacey Meechan, who suffers from cerebral palsy, has been unable to enjoy time in the front garden of her house in Laurelbank Avenue, Bonnybridge because the grass surface is in such poor condition and so uneven.

Now companies and individuals have donated a total of 150 paving slabs and their time and labour in an effort to help her convert the garden from grass to a paved surface.

Elaine Johnston, who lives in nearby Greenhill Road, has been coordinating the effort to help Stacey.

She said: “The amount of people who are willing to come and help Stacey has been amazing. I noticed when we were out clapping for the NHS that Stacey would be standing inside her house at the window.

“I talked to her and said we would be able to help her get outside again in the good weather and enjoy a drink together – she can also sit in it and talk to people as they pass by.

“I put something on Facebook about it and we got a great response from people, with a lady in Allandale donating 50 slabs and Robert Denholm Contractors in Bonnybridge donating 50.

“We had a gardener who had two customers who ordered too many slabs so he is giving us the extra ones. Central Demolition donated the sand and a whacker plate to flatten the land.

“Danny Beattie of Beattie and Sneddon Builders has given his time to dig up the garden in preparation. All we need now is a skip and transport to pick up the slabs.”

Once they get the skip and suitable transport arranged the team of volunteers, the unofficially titled Bonnybridge DIY SOS squad, will set a date to get cracking and carry out the transformation of Stacey’s garden.

“We really want to get Stacey’s garden done up for her before the good weather changes,” said Elaine.

If you can help with suitable transport for the slabs and donation of a skip then call Elaine on 07711276552.
