Permission was been granted on May 7 for the work to go ahead at the Scotland’s Close premises.
The planning documents stated: “The building is on several levels accessed by way of internal ramps and stairs and this proposal, through a new platform lift and a single stair lift, will open the spaces up for all.

“The aim is to provide a more practical upper space from both an accessibility and out of hours point of view. The existing library entrance will be unaffected by the works and this will bring new life and enhance the community use of the library.”
