Blooming marvellous result

It was a hat-trick of wins for David Stevenson when he was named winner of this year's annual garden competition organised by Airth Parish Community Council. He also took top prize in 2013 and 2014, while last year he was runner-up.

The retired long-distance lorry driver has transformed his garden in Elphinstone Crescent with plenty of loving care – and a lot of hard work.

David (71) said his love of gardening was first nurtured at Redding Secondary School where pupils had regular lessons in the subject. He said: “It all really stemmed from there when I first got interested and I’ve always been keen since then.”

Pictured here with Falkirk MP John McNally, who as well as selecting the winner, donated the trophy and £30 prize money, David, who is married to Margaret, is joined by granddaughters Grace Galvin (11) and Bethany Steele (15) and pet dog Jess.

David has donated his prize to Airth and District Senior Citizens group. Second was Mrs Jean McCudden, also of Elphinstone Crescent, while third was Sandra McLaren of Kersie Terrace, South Alloa.
