Banksy beware: Grangemouth murals are popping up all over the place

Another piece of eye catching public artwork has appeared in the Grangemouth area and there is more to come.

Possible plans for an “art trail” to be created in the town could be on the cards if more murals make an appearance in an around the area at a rate that would put even Banksy at his peak to shame.

Earlier this year people’s gaze was drawn to the massive murals in Kerse Road created by David Crossley and Donna Forrester.

Brightening up summer with their heritage-themed creations, the dynamic duo have returned in the autumn with another distinctly nautical themed design.

After a weekend of hard graft and creative craft, David has completed an amazing portrait – complete with a waterfall cascading out of the frame onto the pavement – of the historic Charlotte Dundas paddle steamer on a side wall in Charlotte Dundas Court shopping centre.

People have already been stopping on their way to the shops to view David’s masterpiece and Donna will soon be starting work on yet another mural on another wall in the precinct.

The Charlotte Dundas Court project follows on from the Kerse Road Gap Project, which saw residents decide on what design they wanted to adorn the walls of the end buildings at the top of La Porte Precinct.

Through a variety of social media posts, people were asked which specific areas of the docks and the old town they wanted to see depicted on the murals.

Artists Donna and David then began work on the chosen design – a depiction of the old town featuring the clock, with a man and his dog featured prominently on one side and a heron taking a breather at Grangemouth Docks on the other.

Now, with the artworks ongoing in Charlotte Dundas Court, Grangemouth and Skinflats Community Council has suggested some kind of local art trail could be a future attraction in the town.

In an online post the local watchdog stated: “We have Inchyra Park’s artworks and artworks in Charlotte Dundas, Rannoch Park, Burbank Road, Zetland Park, Kerse Road and York Square.

"I think it is fair to say an art trail is developing in our town. Maybe we need something to bring it all together.”
