Bairn cartoonist Jim flies the flag for Falkirk in national magazine

The creative force behind The Falkirk Herald’s popular Bairn cartoon has had his work recognised in a UK-wide publication.

Jim Barker, creator of The Bairn, is the October cover star of the Cartoonist Club of Great Britain (CCGB) magazine The Jester.

Jim said: “I’ve been a member of the CCGB on and off for 40 years. They way it works with The Jester is they highlight a member’s work every month, showing their cartoon on the front cover and more examples of their work inside, along with an interview with the artist.

“Everyone gets a shot at it and it was just my turn, but I was delighted I was asked to do it.”

The 12-page interview inside the magazine give details about Jim’s life and work, how he got started and the creative process and techniques he employs when he is coming up with his cartoons.

Some of his COVID-19-inspired work, which featured in The Falkirk Herald earlier this year, appears in the magazine.
